Mónica Pacheco

Mónica Pacheco is an architect, graduated in Faculdade de Arquitetura of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, with a Master in Housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association in London and a PhD entitled “Genealogies of the grounds in architecture. Contributions for an archaeology of knowledge representation”.
She worked in architectural offices in Portugal and the Netherlands, namely UnStudio and OMA, collaborating in projects such as Jardim do Tabaco in Lisbon, the Institutsgebaude für Oper und Orchester in Graz, Ponte Parodi in Genoa and Casa da Música in Oporto.
She is Assistant Professor at ISCTE-IUL in Lisbon, teaching design studios since 2004, Visiting Teacher at the University of Salerno since 2013 and Guest Professor at the Artesis University College Antwerp in 2014. Member and researcher of CIAAM and DINÂMIA-CET, she has published papers in the context of international conferences, and organized several “research by design” workshops.

Ana Vaz Milheiro (Lisbon, 1968). BA (1991) and Master (1998) in Architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. PhD by the Faculdade de Arquitectura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo (2004).Author of A Construção do Brasil – Relações com a Cultura Arquitectónica Portuguesa (2005), Nos Trópicos sem Le Corbusier – Arquitectura luso-africana no Estado Novo (2012) awarded with the art and architecture critic and essayist prize by the Portuguese Section of AICA.

Ricardo Camacho

Ricardo Camacho (b. 1979) is Visiting Professor of Architecture at Northeastern University School of Architecture, Principal of PROEM and CasaGranturismo, and teaches design studios at Kuwait University College of Architecture in Kuwait. Born in Algarve, Portugal, Camacho is a recipient of the IV Ibero-American Architecture Biennial award for Emergent Panorama (2004, Peru), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and FLAD Fine Arts Grant (2007-09, Portugal), the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Annual Research Grant (2014-15, Kuwait), and was nominated for III Premio Mediterraneo Del Paesaggio in 2009, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Archdaily Building of the Year Awards in 2016. Camacho holds a master’s in architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (2002, Portugal), and earned his second graduate degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (2009, USA). Camacho is co-author of Habitar Portugal 2006/2009, as well as Modern Architecture Kuwait 1949-1989 volumes 1 and 2, and has participated in several conferences in Europe, the United States, and Kuwait. As the principal of CasaGranturismo from 2005-2011, he collaborated with several world-renowned practices such as Atelier Bow Wow from Japan, and Angelo Bucci from Brazil. Camacho has been an active architect and researcher in Kuwait since 2009, and has served as Deputy Curator of the country's first participation at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia in 2012. In the same year, Camacho curated the conference “Kuwait Modern Architecture,” and has led different projects in the city including: reconverting Kuwait City’s Green Belt to the Al-Shaheed Park project Phases I and II. Camacho primarily works in Europe and the Arabian Gulf, and lives in between Portugal, the United States, and Kuwait.
Ana Pedro & Pedro Maria
Ponto Atelier
Ana Pedro Ferreira and Pedro Maria Ribeiro are the founders of the young architecture studio PONTOatelier with Gustavo Freitas.
They have been working between Évora, Madeira and Lisbon.
Participated and collaborated in several workshops and exhibitions.
Both have been distinguished with theirs master thesis on the Archiprix prize of 2014 and 2015.
Invited to teach as professor’s as 1st, 3rd and 4th year’s in 2013/2015 at Évora’s University (DAue).
Last year they have been working in Lisbon and collaborating at Ventura Trindade Architects.
Participated in the exhibition “Mostra Espanha”, in 2015/2016 in Évora and Madrid, with “The shelter” Project.
They are currently developing a study investigation for the City Hall of Funchal in collaboration with architect Paulo David, and doing their own projects in Funchal, Madeira.
Among several projects, stands out in 2016, the 1st prize in the international competition launched by OARS "Two houses for the Ilhas Selvagens".
Most recently they won 1st prize in the invitation contest Skin contest Farm Cultural Park 2017 with the project "GABBIA.
Recently were invited to participate as assistant professors at the W.A.V.E workshop in Venice, to be held this summer.
Zenovia Toloudi

Zenovia Toloudi is architect, artist, and Assistant Professor of Architecture at Studio Art, Dartmouth College. In 2000, Zenovia founded Studio Z, an artistic research practice on architecture and urbanism. Zenovia’s work critiques the contemporary alienation of humans from nature and sociability in architecture and in public space, and investigates spatial typologies to reestablish cohabitation, inclusion and participation through digital, physical, and organic media. Zenovia's adaptive structures and installations have been exhibited internationally, including Venice Biennale, The Lab at Harvard, Athens Byzantine Museum, Illuminus Boston, and Thessaloniki Bienniale of Contemporary Art. Zenovia’s public art projects have been placed in buildings such as MIT Stata, New England College of Optometry, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; and belong to art collections such as Aristotle University's Sculpture Collection, Threcian Pinacotheca, and Leslie Center for the Humanities at Dartmouth. Zenovia has presented in conferences and symposia such as Ambiances Demain, International Symposium for Electronic Arts (ISEA 2015: Disruption), the Atmosphere Symposium 5, Connections (MIT Media Lab), SiGraDi, Design Computing and Cognition, and the MIT Energy Night (MIT Museum). Her essays have been published in Routledge, Technoetic Arts, MAS Context and WAr. Zenovia has received a Doctor of Design degree from Harvard GSD, a Master of Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology (as a Fulbright Fellow), and a Diploma in Architectural Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Starting Fall 2017, Zenovia will be joining the Harvard GSD Alumni Council.
Pedro Duarte Bento
Studio Pedro Duarte Bento
(born in Évora, Portugal) is a Portuguese architect graduated at FAUTL Lisbon in 2005. Member of the OA Ordem dos Arquitectos / Portuguese Architects Association, and an international member of the AIA American Institute of Architects. Trained at VAO Arquitectos in Lisbon, at Josep Lluis Mateo Arquitectura in Barcelona, and at James Corner Field Operations in New York City. Held an Associate position at the New York City office of SOM Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for several years, leading the design of complex projects in the United States, Latin America and the Middle East.
Establishes own studio in 2016. Studio Pedro Duarte Bento is an architecture practice based in Lisbon, Portugal. The studio pursuits contextual meaning and plain geometric assumptions in all its projects, regardless program or scale — from domestic life interiors to territorial intervention. The studio's body-of-work ranges from private commissions and construction to visual architecture theory and object experimentation. The studio is also responsible for the management of Rayon Vert, an independent publishing project.
Omar Khattab

Dr. Omar Khattab, is currently the Dean for the College of Architecture. He is an Associate Professor of architecture at Kuwait University since 2004. Joined the Department in 1997 and shared in its physical establishment and the initiation of its academic program. He obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in architecture from Alexandria University, Egypt. He then obtained an MA and PhD in architecture from Newcastle University, UK. He taught architecture at Alexandria, Newcastle, Texas A&M and Kuwait Universities. He is a guest lecturer at Huddersfield University, UK, Rizvi College of Architecture, India, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey and Helsinki Technical University, Finland. He was a Visiting Associate Professor at Prairie View A&M University, Texas USA.
Dr. Khattab is an academic and practitioner whose main interest is design. He received the title of Architecture Consultant in architectural design & studies, by Kuwait Society of Engineers, in 2004 and has kept a close link with practice since 1983. He practiced architecture in Egypt, England and Kuwait. Dr. Khattab won a number of local and regional design competitions and was responsible for major design projects including the Care Centre for Mentally Retarded and the Kuwait Autism Centre in Kuwait. Dr. Khattab has a number of designed and built projects in both Egypt and Kuwait. He was a Senior Designer architect at Awad Enterprises, Alexandria in 1982 for 7 years. He was also a senior Architect and Project Coordinator at the Kuwaiti Engineering Group. Dr. Khattab has been a member of jury committees for the evaluation of major design projects in Kuwait and acted as an external examiner for final year architecture students at Bahrain and Istanbul Technical Universities. Dr. Khattab has growing interest in Green Building and he is a LEED AP(BD+C) and a member of the USGBC [United States Green Building Council] since May 2008 and was the first professional to receive this qualification in Kuwait.
Dr. Khattab published more than 15 articles and research papers in local and international refereed journals as well as numerous published papers in international refereed conference proceedings. He is a co-author of two internationally published books, Cities in Transition: Transforming the Global Built Environment (ed. T. Shakur, 2005) and Methodologies in Housing Research (ed. D. U. Vestbro & Y. Hurol & N. Wilkinson, 2005). Dr. Khattab is the Kuwait elected representative on the managing board of RIBA Gulf Chapter (Royal Institute of British Architecture).
Manar Moursi
University of Waterloo, Toronto
Manar Moursi studied architecture at the University of Virginia before attending Princeton University, where she received an MArch degree in 2008. Working at the intersection of art and architecture, in 2011, she founded Studio Meem, an interdisciplinary design and research studio. Her portfolio includes built private and public projects in Cairo and Kuwait. Her work with Studio Meem has been shortlisted for international architectural competitions.
In recognition of the excellence of her architectural design work, in 2015 she was nominated for the prestigious Italcementi Women in Architecture Award. In the field of product design, her work has been awarded Good Design and Red Dot Design awards.
In addition to her award-winning architectural and product design practice, Manar has worked on producing and designing multiple exhibitions and publications.
Recently, she worked on the editing of the catalogue of the Egyptian Pavilion for the 2016 Architectural Biennale in Venice. Her book Sidewalk Salon: 1001 Street Chairs of Cairo, was published in 2015 by Onomatopee in Eindhoven and Kotob Khan, Cairo. An exhibition relating to the material in the book traveled from Holland to Belgium and the UAE.
Manar currently teaches architecture at the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto.
